Tell us a little bit about yourself

 I’ve been at the ̽»¨ÊÓƵ for the last 13 years, which has flown by! I joined when I was completing my PhD and found my love of teaching and research combined in one role!

What does your research specialise in?

My research specialises in working with male victims of domestic violence and abuse and the impacts of this abuse on them and their children. I have published a number of papers and co-edited three books in the area.  

I was also the Chair of the British Psychological Society’s Male Psychology Section which was a really important role to help bring about awareness of the issues affecting men and boys, including domestic violence, within the wider area of psychology.

What modules do you teach and what is your favourite part of these?

 I have taught a lot of different modules in my time here, but my favourites are always the research methods modules. I get so excited to share all the different and creative ways we can do research beyond the traditional experiments and surveys. I also love when students find an area they feel really passionate about and we can collaborate on ways they can research it!

What makes your course different?

You get excellent support from our team when you work with us on the degree, and we offer lots of extra opportunities to get experience including through additional seminars/workshops and getting involved in real-world research in the team.

What’s your favourite thing about teaching at Cumbria?

I love the people at Cumbria. The staff across the university and the students make this a brilliant place to work with lots of opportunities to contribute to the local community and beyond.

I’m from Yorkshire (not surprising once you hear me talk!) and also I’m a massive Leeds United fan!
